Successful Asian Bioenergy Conference
Opens Door to Sustainable Bioeconomy in Asia
- 26 countries participated
- Number of Asian participants reached 70% of the
total
- Steps towards the preparation of IBSCE 2018
Shanghai, 26 April 2017 -
The Second International Bioenergy Conference and Exhibition (IBSCE)
in Shanghai ended as a successful scientific and
business forum with international bioenergy experts from research, development
and industry.
It
welcomed 100 attendees from 26 countries. Experts and
entrepreneurs had the opportunity to communicate, enhance
their understanding and share their experiences in order to
discuss the role of bioenergy in the Asian context.
China
has abundant biomass potential, especially from agricultural
residues, animal waste and from the sustainable management of
the organic fraction of urban waste. Coal substitution is one
of the main drivers for the development of bioenergy in China.
The current plans (including the 13th five year programme from
2016 to 2020 for renewable energy) have estimated a potential
to substitute 320 million tons of coal equivalents with
bioenergy by 2030. Sustainable waste management is another
important driver. A city like Beijing produces more than
10,000 tons of municipal solid waste daily, therefore
bioenergy and especially anaerobic digestion can represent
effective solutions for managing the organic fraction of this
waste.
“This IBSCE has been very helpful for me as investor.
It covers extensively all aspects from policy, planning and
technological details. It is great that IBSCE can bridge
people from different places and industries
together” Patrick LIU, GM, Shanxi Shingon
Bio-agriculture Development co.ltd, P.R. China
“The conference
and the exhibition gave to us the opportunity to explore the
Chinese market with focus on biogas application and to
establish first contacts with potential partners in BTS
development strategy” Roberto Salmaso, International
Sales Department BTS Biogas, Italy
“It’s my first time at the IBSCE
Conference and I think it’s a really valuable conference. I
have learnt a lot, I have made a lot of good contacts,
especially international contacts, different countries,
different focus areas, so really a valuable experience. I
would recommend people to contribute and attend the next
conferences” Marius Van Der Merwe, New Carbon, South
Africa
A steering Committee will be established
for the preparation of the next event. Candidatures for
potential steering committee members were also received from
stakeholders representing research, national government and
international organisations, all offering concrete support to
the future development of IBSCE.
The next IBSCE will be organised
in May 2018 in Shanghai.
Background

(Shanghai) Conference and Exhibition is an initiative of EUBCE
and SNEIA, which partnered to promote the biomass sector in
Asia and to bring together leading experts, researchers,
public authorities, representatives of international
organizations and innovators.
A knowledge exchange on
the latest scientific and industry results, developments in
policies, and deployment and business that will enable the
move towards efficiency and sustainability in the bioenergy
sector.
